Virtual Torch Run: Polina Livingston & Captain David Stem

Some good news! Check out this great SOMD & LETR story out of Carroll County:

Polina Livingston & Captain David P. Stem
Message from Captain David P. Stem to Carroll County LETR

As many of you may already know all LETR for Special Olympics Maryland in-person fundraising efforts for this year had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, this meant that athletes such as Polina Livingston, the athlete who Carroll County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) sponsors annually for the Torch Run could not participate in the run or subsequent games. A year’s loss of fundraising revenue to the Special Olympics Maryland has the potential to have devastating effects on the program. Yesterday, I had the awesome opportunity to visit with Polina at Meadow Creek Farm in Hampstead where she does therapeutic horseback riding. Although she was upset about the cancellation of the Torch Run, CCSO was still able to give her a 2020 Torch Run T-shirt which was reciprocated with a great smile and hug! Polina is an amazing person and like many of the Special Olympics Maryland athletes, she is such an awesome person with a big heart and endless drive. Her will to succeed is a motivator to others in and of itself. With the help of her mom, she has set up a fundraising page to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland since she could not do any other fundraising this year. I know it would mean so much to Polina if we, as Carroll County Law Enforcement could support her with a bunch of donations. Even the smallest of donations go far to help the Special Olympics Maryland program!
