Young Athletes At-Home: All Abilities Yoga

Instructor Amanda Burks

Amanda is a 200-hour registered yoga teacher and is currently working to obtain her 500-hour certification as a Yoga Medicine® Therapeutic Specialist. Amanda took her first yoga class in 2006, but found a much deeper connection to yoga after becoming the mother of two children with special needs. She is certified to teach yoga to children with high-functioning autism, sensory processing disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and various learning differences. Amanda is also a Talk Yoga® certified instructor and incorporates various speech and articulation exercises with yoga poses. She has taught Kid’s Yoga for All Abilities at Nimaste Yoga and at various preschool classes.

Amanda believes that yoga is for everybody and that we practice yoga to become more flexible, both physically and mentally. In each of her children’s yoga classes she utilizes a theme as a framework to explore age-appropriate mindfulness activities. Children move through a variety of poses in a playful and non-competitive game format and then use breathing techniques to practice self-regulation.
