Meet our Newest Hires!

Our SOMD Family is changing and growing! In the first quarter of 2022, we expanded our SOMD staff with 2 new employees. We are so excited to welcome Alexander Lateulere, who is our new Manager, Donor Relations, and Tionee Drumwright as our Operations Assistant/Receptionist to the SOMD Team!

Meet Alexander!

Alexander Lateulere
Manager of Donor Relations

Alex joined our staff on Tuesday, January 4th as SOMD’s new Donor Relations Manager. In this role, Alex will work most directly with Sue Jacobs to provide research and administrative assistance designed to support the financial goals and strategic growth of the organization.

Alex grew up in Southern Maryland, attending Lackey High School, where he first experienced SOMD High School Interscholastic Unified Sports programs as a Tennis athlete. Alex went on to study History and Political Science at UMBC, graduating Cum Laude with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both. He also served as the President of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity at UMBC.

Prior to SOMD, Alex worked for Homes for America. It was during this time, seeing the actual impact and value of the work being done, that Alex determined he ultimately wanted to pursue working for a non-profit organization. Most recently, Alex was the Tennis Pro at the Elkridge Club.

Alex can be reached at alateulere@somd.org.

We wanted to know a little bit more about Alex, so we asked him a few questions about his time so far at SOMD! Read more about Alex:

What has been your favorite part about working at SOMD so far?

My favorite thing about working at SOMD so far is all the incredibly beautiful singing voices I am privileged enough to hear sing “Happy Birthday” at our staff meetings; I was shocked to learn that Jim does not, in fact, hire exclusively from Broadway.

What is one thing you are excited about in your first year at SOMD?

I was excited to plunge for the first time! Nothing says “welcome to the team” like diving into the frigid Chesapeake Bay waters with your co-workers.

Have you ever been a part of a Special Olympics Maryland or Special Olympics event whether as a volunteer, coach, participant (Plunger), or spectator?

In high school, I volunteered with the Unified Tennis program.

Where is one place you want to travel to before 2022 is over?

If I had a time machine and could go back in time to visit a place before 2022, I would take a trip to Savannah, Georgia; I’ve always wanted to visit the southern city so beautiful that General Sherman had no choice but to spare it on the March to the Sea.

What is your favorite song?

“Deal” by Grateful Dead

Thank you Alexander for all that you do for our athletes, we are so happy to have you on the team!

Meet Tionee!

Tionee Drumwright
Operations Assistant/Receptionist

Tionee Drumwright joined the SOMD staff on March 7th as the Operations Assistant/Receptionist. In this role, Tionee will support Rhonda Garrison in the areas of HR, Risk Management and Office Management. She will also serve as the office Receptionist, providing excellent customer service to our internal and external stakeholders.

Prior to SOMD, Tionee was most recently the Administrative Coordinator at Gaudenzia, Inc., an inpatient addiction treatment facility, where she provided a broad range of operational and administrative support for the Clinical and Division Directors as well as client support.

Tionee grew up in the Baltimore area, where she still resides with her family and pets. She is a big fan of the Baltimore Ravens. In addition to working full time, Tionee is pursuing a degree in Accounting and Business Management. Tionee can be reached at tdrumwright@somd.org.

We wanted to know a little bit more about Tionee, so we asked him a few questions about his time so far at SOMD! Read more about Tionee:

What has been your favorite part about working at SOMD so far?

My favorite part about working for SOMD so far is the staff.  Just meeting everyone and seeing how passionate they are about what they do is amazing.  Everyone has been so welcoming!

What is one thing you are excited about in your first year at SOMD?

I am excited about seeing all the athletes in their zone doing what they love.  I can’t wait to be hands-on with each event and meeting the athletes and the people who take pride in what they do.

Have you ever been a part of a Special Olympics Maryland or Special Olympics event whether as a volunteer, coach, participant (Plunger), or spectator?

I have never been a part of SOMD, but this year it will all change.

Where is one place you want to travel to before 2022 is over?

One place I want to travel to before 2022 is over is Aruba.  I actually plan on going there for my birthday in December.

What is your favorite song?

Oh, wow I have so many favorite songs to choose from lol, but my all-time favorite is Whitney Houston “You Give Good Love”.

Thank you for jumping into the Plunge and for all that you do for our athletes.

Welcome to the team Tionee!
