National Sports Day
National Sports Day was founded in 2019 to celebrate athletes, families, and fans of all sports. National Sports Day is about the benefits of sporting competition. When the youth have an opportunity to play sports competitively, they improve their skills and build habits to take with them into adulthood. The family members who support them create a bond that brings them together, improving families and communities throughout the nation. October is the perfect time of year for National Sports Day! That’s why on October 16th, the fans, families, and athletes of all sports connect and come together to celebrate their favorite athletic events.
Team sports bring people together. Special Olympics Unified Sports do that too! Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team of similar age and ability. This makes practices more fun and games more challenging and exciting for all. Having sport in common is just one more way that preconceptions and false ideas are swept away. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
