Healthy Athletes: Year End Review

Special Olympics Maryland’s Healthy Athletes Program has been very busy during the 2022–2023 year! 4 extensive health screening opportunities were hosted across the state for 497 individuals with a mental or physical disability without access to proper health care, and Clinical Directors have done an incredible job working with our athletes and their families. Healthy Young Athletes Pediatric Screening
- Date: July 25th 2022
- Location = CentroNia Tacoma Park MD
- 26 Young Athletes went through this Pediatric Screening
- 1 of 5 US State Programs to pilot this screening.
- KKI was the major contributing partner for this event!
- All Clinical Directors and volunteers were recruited from various departments across KKI.
USA Games
- Dates: June 4th – 12th 2022
- Location = Orlando Florida
- 125 athletes went through the HA Screenings
- Disciplines Offered:

- FUNFitness = 61 Screenings
- Health Promotion= 76 Screenings
- Healthy Hearing = 100 Screenings
- Opening Eyes = 98 Screenings
- Special Smiles = 97 Screenings
- Fit Feet = 93 Screenings
SOMD Summer Games
- Date = June 18th, 2022
- Location = Towson University
- 101 athletes came through HA
- Disciplines Offered:
- FUNFitness = 67 Screenings
- Health Promotion= 52 Screenings
- Healthy Hearing = 74 Screenings
- Special Smiles = 66 Screenings
PGCPS MedFest
- Dates: January 11th & 12th 2023
- Location = UMD Xfinity Center
- 245 students received their updated sports physicals.

- Was able to offer SOMD FIRST EVER MedFest event in January 2023
- Had 3 Inclusive Health & Medical Advocacy Trainings to train students and health care professionals outside of a Healthy Athlete Screening Event.
