Our events don't exist without our volunteers, and the same goes for our Virtual MOVEment. We are always looking for volunteers to engage Special Olympics Maryland athletes, families, Unified® Partners, and volunteers in our fun at-home opportunities. State or Local Volunteer Opportunities?

It's time to get off the sidelines and onto the field! As a Special Olympics Maryland volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to lend your time and talents to support the 8,716 athletes of Maryland.

State Opportunities

State opportunities include volunteering at our state-wide competitions such as summer games, winter games, and the golf championship! You may also have an interest in volunteering at major fundraisers like the Rockfish Open or the MSP Polar Bear Plunge. These opportunities are available for sign-up right on SOMD’s VolunteerHub page: https://somd.volunteerhub.com/

Local Opportunities

Local opportunities include volunteering as a coach, a sports volunteer, or a games management team member for a specific sport! For local opportunities, you will commit to helping in a specific county. To get involved with your local program, email volunteers@somd.org with your volunteering county of interest in the subject line.

Group Volunteering

Volunteering with a group is welcomed by SOMD! In order to register a group of volunteers from the same company or organization, please email volunteers@somd.org with the following information: Group size, names of ALL group members , the event you are interested in volunteering at, and any questions you may have.

All group members must complete a VolunteerHub account before being allowed to participate in the event

MOVEment Meeting Coach

MOVEment Meetings are weekly group fitness experiences offered on Fridays at noon over Zoom. Each session will last roughly 15-20 minutes and is led by a Special Olympics Maryland Athlete, staff member, or celebrity guest coach! Using Fit5® resources as a guide, fitness coaches will lead group participants through a fun at-home workout emphasizing flexibility, endurance, or strength. Fam Fitness Host

Fam Fitness sessions are once a month fitness workouts designed with exercises to be completed together by an athlete and family member. Using Fit5 resources as a guide, the host family will lead group participants through a fun at-home workout focused on flexibility, endurance, and strength. Health Forum Host

Health Forums are virtual educational sessions to provide families of Special Olympics athletes direct access to community leaders, health care professionals, and social service providers. Our health forums are based around our Healthy Athletes disciplines: Healthy Hearing, Opening Eyes, Fit Feet, Health Promotion, Fun Fitness, and Special Smiles. Social Club Guest

Our virtual Social Club where we discuss some of our favorite topics. We are looking for individuals who would be interested in joining our weekly Social Clubs as a guest to speak to a wide range of topics (some we are currently covering include Marvel vs. DC, cooking, movies, and more!).
